Cylindrical and surface grinding
Where a part has to hold its size after hardening or needs a fine surface, we grind it.
When is grinding needed?
A machined surface is enough for most jobs. Grinding comes in when:
- After hardening: heat treatment moves the part slightly; grinding brings it back to size.
- For tight fits: bearing seats and sleeve fits (h5, h6, j6).
- For a fine surface: seal seats and sliding surfaces (Ra 0.4–0.8).
- For flatness: mould plates and support faces.
What we grind
Cylindrical grinding: outside diameters of shafts, pins and sleeves, between centres or centreless.
Internal grinding: bores of hardened bushings and seats.
Surface grinding: flat faces of plates, mould components and supports.
Grinding is usually planned as the finishing step after turning or milling; we follow the whole part through.
What we need for a quote
- The drawing or the dimensions, the surfaces to be ground and the tolerance required.
- Material and hardness (HRC).
- The surface roughness you expect (Ra).
- Whether the part exists already or has to be made from raw material first.
