Shafts and axles

We make machine shafts from your drawing or your broken part: stepped shafts, keyed shafts, threaded and tapered axles.

What we make

  • Stepped shafts: transmission shafts with different seats for bearings, pulleys and gears.
  • Keyed shafts: with DIN 6885 keyways.
  • Threaded and tapered ends: for nut-clamped or taper-fitted assemblies.
  • Machine tool shafts: gearbox and feed shafts.
  • Mixer and conveyor shafts: long, in stainless where needed.

Length and diameter are handled by picking a machine with enough capacity for the part.

Material, heat treatment and grinding

C45 is common for medium loads and 42CrMo4 (4140) for high and shock loads. Food and chemical applications use stainless (304, 316, 420).

Where surface hardness is needed we use induction hardening or nitriding; bearing and seal seats are finished by cylindrical grinding so the dimensions hold after heat treatment.

If a high-speed shaft needs dynamic balancing, say so in the request and we quote it separately.

What we need for a quote

  • Overall length, step diameters and lengths, keyway size and position.
  • Tolerances for bearing and seal seats (h6, k6) and the roughness you expect.
  • Material and heat treatment, or the speed, load and environment so we can suggest them.
  • Photos of the broken shaft; sending all the pieces makes the original length safer to determine.
